Instituto do Câncer do Ceará, Divisions of Radiology and Nuclear Medic, Brazil

Regis Oquendo Nogueira, MD, is a physician in the Nuclear Medicine Division of the Ceará Cancer Hospital in Fortaleza, Brazil.

The non-profit foundation provides prevention, education and treatment in oncology for those who cannot afford private healthcare, while financing themselves by private donations and government support. Thus, cost is always an important issue especially when deciding to make the step into digital imaging.

This step was made a lot easier when the Ceará Cancer Hospital found out about iQ-VIEW as a very practical and cost-saving solution. A network based totally on iQ-VIEW was developed and now allows the Nuclear Medicine, Radiology and Radiotherapy Divisions to be connected and exchange DICOM studies through the hospital's network. This makes it much faster and more convenient to make images available in another department, to compare CT and NM studies of the same patient, to make findings and start treatment planning.

The iQ-VIEW-based network has vastly improved the management of the medical image workflow and many iQ-VIEW software features like image export and archiving, burning of patient-CDs and printing options, have led to a significant and very welcome reduction in the costs for documenting patient studies and making them available on CD/DVD for referring physicians or for consulting the archived data at a later time e.g. to compare them to follow-up studies in order to assess the response to treatment.
